Remember the Alamo

While Nathan was stationed at Fort Sill, Oklahoma I came to visit him and we went to Oklahoma City's Bricktown where they have this little riverwalk and you can take a taxi boat around and see parts of the city. It was fun and romantic. We decided since it wasn't practical to drive seven hours each way up to Oklahoma we would just head on down to San Antonio where Oklahoma City got the riverwalk idea.

After our amazing stay in Austin we drove down to San Antonio where we were staying at the Drury Plaza Hotel, not quite as nice as the Driskill but still nice and right on the riverwalk. After checking in we decided to take a little nap because we were so tired from the day before. We hung out until around 5:30pm and then headed down to the riverwalk. It was amazing. There are so many shops and restaurants right along the river. We walked down the riverwalk just taking in the sights and sounds and stopping occasionally to read menus at restaurants to see where we wanted to eat. After walking for 30 min we got tickets to the river cruise and went on a 30 min cruise of the San Antonio river. I was amazed to find out that the riverwalk was built around the San Antonio river's natural course and only a few sections of the riverwalk are man made. I thought that it was just some canal that they had built for the purpose of having the riverwalk. The tour was nice, we learned quite a bit about the city and some of the buildings.

After the cruise we walked up to the surface streets and checked out the Alamo at night. It was pretty cool. You can still just walk right up to the building and it is right in the center of town. After checking out the Alamo we walked down to the mall were we had dinner and we hoped to get some of our dessert. Unfortunately, after dinner we were too full to eat ice cream. Instead we walked around until we were ready for dessert and the creamery was closed. We then walked back down to our hotel so we could check out the city lights from the 20th floor. It was pretty cool. They have a pool up there and a hot tub and you can see most of the city. After checking out the lights we called it a night and went to bed.

The next morning we checked out of our hotel and drove down to the mall. We had breakfast and then got tickets to The Alamo IMAX. It was an interesting show but not the best IMAX I have ever seen. After we watched our show we stopped by the Creamery for Birthday Cake Ice cream with sprinkles and walked down to the Alamo. During the day when the Alamo is open you can walk through the mission for free, you can touch the walls ( they ask you not to) and see artifacts that people have donated. It was pretty interesting. After we moseyed on through the mission and the outer courtyard and gift shop we decided it was about time we headed back up to Killeen. We had a great trip and it was sure nice to see and do things that we both really wanted to do before Nathan leaves. It was a great anniversary weekend. I can't wait until we get to spend another one together!
